What does vitamin D3 do?
Vitamin D3 plays an important role in supporting a healthy, balanced immune system. Low vitamin D levels, which are common amongst the UK population, particularly during winter, may compromise our immune response and leave us at risk of infection. Because it helps to balance the immune system, it's important for those with overactive immune systems too. It is also needed for bone health - without it, our bodies cannot absorb calcium which is critical for strong bones and is needed for muscle function. This is important in older people who may be more at risk of falling, a risk factor for fractures. It is also very important for the normal growth & development of bones in children.
Why choose our Vitamin D3 High Strength?
One High Strength Vitamin D3 contains 5000iu vitamin D3 in a single, small sized tablet. The D3 form of vitamin D is used in this product, which is the same form made in the skin in response to sunlight, meaning it is easier for the body to absorb than other forms. At a cost of 16p per tablet, Nutri's High Strength Vitamin D3 is a cost-effective, convenient way to top up Vitamin D3.
Who is it suitable for?
This formula is suitable for those who may be deficient in vitamin D, or have insufficient levels and require extra vitamin D. The Vitamin D3 here is derived from lanolin (sheep wool). It is therefore suitable for vegetarians but not vegans.
Who is at risk of vitamin D deficiency?
Between October and March, everyone in the UK is at risk of low levels of vitamin D, as we cannot generate enough vitamin D in the skin through sunlight in those months, and it is very difficult to consume enough through food. It is thought that as little as 10% of our vitamin D intake comes from the food we eat. Supplementation is recommended to adults and children over the age of one, particularly during the autumn and winter months; and groups at risk of deficiency such as those who have little or no exposure to sun, are recommended to supplement all year round.

We believe supplements and all wellbeing products should use high quality, effective ingredients. All the products and brands we choose to sell meet our personal standard for quality and contain naturopathic and, where possible, organic ingredients.
The majority of our products are suitable for vegetarians and vegans, however we do stock high quality, sustainable fish oils, which means our full range is not vegetarian. We clearly identify these in the product listings.
We stock cruelty-free brands whose products and ingredients are never tested on animals.
Choosing Quality Supplements
We always look for high bioavailability, which is a good indicator of the quality and how well a product is absorbed. The higher the bioavailability, the more of your chosen supplement will be absorbed by your body.
All too often we see cheap supplements, which although they may have the required dosage of the active ingredients, they may have a low bioavailability due to being more refined or combined with poor quality additional ingredients to form tablets, or even make them appear more appetising.
Additional ingredients in cheaper supplements are often unnecessary or impact the absorption of the supplement you take, so it is important not only to check the dosage of your chosen active ingredients, but also ensure any other ingredients are good for you, too. It is the additional ingredients that can often contain allergens or make a product non-vegan, for example.
